Description
Our Richmond VA based mechanical/construction client is seeking a Senior Accountant on a temp basis to own the company’s month-end close, payroll, cash flow, and financial reporting. This is a highly visible, hands-on role that partners directly with General Management and Service leadership and plays a key role in operational and financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full month-end close process, including bank reconciliations, accruals, and credit cards.
- Prepare accurate, timely financial statements and maintain audit-ready records.
- Process payroll and manage related accounting activities.
- Monitor cash flow by preparing a basic weekly cash forecast report
- Review AP for accuracy and process payments
- Review and post invoice billings
Required Qualifications
- 4-6 years of accounting experience preferred; 2–4 years may be considered for a strong candidate.
- Proven experience owning the complete month-end close proces
- Strong QuickBooks and payroll experience.
- Experience preparing month-end close workpapers.
- Strong communication skills with non-financial leaders.
- Experience in mechanical/HVAC service, construction, or another operational environment strongly preferred.

- Bookkeepers or transactional AP/AR processors.
- Candidates who have not owned a month-end close.
- Purely corporate or highly siloed accounting backgrounds.
- Candidates lacking operational exposure.
- Candidates unable to clearly communicate their accounting processes or demonstrate ownership.
