Description
Our client, a company in the energy/electrical transmission industry, has an immediate opening for an Operations Technician. This role will be responsible for the 24/7 operations and support of maintenance activities for the operation of converter stations.
Responsibilities:
- Work 12-hour shifts, which will be rotated between day (0700-1900 hours) and night (1900-0700 hours), including rotation through day and night shifts on weekends and holidays. Such work may require operations from converter stations in emergencies
- Support on-call duties on days not scheduled for shift (based on availability) by backing-up the on-duty operator for absences due to sickness, injury, or emergency
- Monitor the HVDC transmission system and confirm system availability when in standby/idle operations, calculating ramp rates and entering values, performing remote switching, answering Operations’ phones, executing orders, acknowledging alarms, and dispatching of Operations & Maintenance personnel
- Maintain Operating Logs, records, disturbance and outage reports, equipment failure reports, and significant event records
- Assist in maintenance and fault finding/repair at the converter stations during scheduled and forced outages
- Provide technical support to Project Engineering for specific areas of operations and maintenance-related tasks as necessary. This includes researching equipment design, developing or reviewing specifications, and procuring materials
- Other responsibilities as required
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology, or other related disciplines
- A practical, adaptable, innovative, collaborative, and solution-focused approach to issues
- Strong ability to be self-directed regarding learning and discovery
- Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and above average math skills
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Familiarity with engineering analysis software and experience with SCADA or control systems is preferable
- Ability to work a non-traditional work week, including “off-hours” and weekends as business needs dictate
- Demonstrates safe work habits and understanding of OSHA and NESC standards
- Basic knowledge of electric utilities and high voltage transmission systems
- General familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations related to electric transmission
- Willingness to complete an extensive training program as well as NERC or ISO equivalent certification programs in order to pass a certification exam and/or meet industry requirements and subsequently maintain these qualifications as required
- Eligible to work in US, Permanent Resident
- Travel Requirements: Must possess valid driver’s license and be willing and able to travel to/from work sites as necessary with limited advance notice and work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and nights
