Description

Certified Medical Assistant

Position Overview

We are seeking a professional, organized, and patient-focused Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join a busy endocrinology practice. This position will work closely with providers and other members of the healthcare team to support patient care, clinical procedures, documentation, and day-to-day practice operations.

The ideal candidate is compassionate, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced specialty practice. Previous endocrinology experience is preferred but not required, and candidates with strong clinical experience and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers with patient care.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, medications, allergies, and other pertinent patient information.
  • Perform clinical duties within the scope of certification and applicable regulations.
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Administer injections, medications, and other clinical procedures as directed and permitted.
  • Collect and prepare specimens and perform basic laboratory testing as applicable.
  • Assist with blood draws and other phlebotomy responsibilities as needed.
  • Accurately document patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Assist with prescription requests, medication refills, and pharmacy communication.
  • Coordinate laboratory work, diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
  • Communicate provider instructions, test results, and follow-up information to patients as directed.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, and appointment preparation under provider direction.
  • Respond to patient questions and appropriately escalate clinical concerns to providers or other clinical staff.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Prepare, clean, and stock examination rooms.
  • Monitor clinical supplies and communicate inventory needs to appropriate staff.
  • Follow infection-control, OSHA, HIPAA, and patient-safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a professional and compassionate approach when interacting with patients and their families.
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, front desk staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Endocrinology Practice Support

The Certified Medical Assistant may support the care and coordination of patients managing a variety of endocrine and metabolic conditions, including:

  • Diabetes and blood-glucose management
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Adrenal and pituitary disorders
  • Osteoporosis and metabolic bone conditions
  • Hormonal and endocrine disorders
  • Obesity and metabolic conditions

Because many patients require ongoing monitoring and long-term care, the CMA should be comfortable supporting laboratory testing, medication management, patient education, and recurring follow-up appointments.

Qualifications

  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous medical office or specialty practice experience preferred.
  • Endocrinology experience preferred but not required.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required based on practice requirements.
  • Strong computer and EMR skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and patient-service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive patient information.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Professional, dependable, compassionate, and team-oriented.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who takes pride in providing excellent patient care and works well as part of a collaborative healthcare team. The ideal candidate is reliable, compassionate, organized, and willing to assist wherever needed to support both the clinical and operational needs of the practice.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, and move throughout the workday.
  • Ability to assist with patient care and perform routine clinical duties.
  • Ability to lift and move medical supplies and equipment as required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
